Smt. Matoshri Gangamma Veerappa Chiniwar Arts College was established in the year 1968. It gradually became a full-fledged college providing education in Arts, Commerce and Science faculties at degree level. In beginning there were 164 students on its roll and six lecturers. Gradually commerce course was introduced in the year 1979 and Science course in 1982. Within a short span of time, the college showed all round progress and became full-fledged degree college by 1990.

The college is housed in its own building surrounded by a beautiful and spacious campus spread over 17.40 acres. The college has well maintained library enriched with valuable text and reference books in various subjects.The library is well equipped with internet and computer facilities.  Special schemes for SC, ST and Minority students is implemented with financial assistance from UGC.

Our college is permanently affiliated to Government of Karnataka, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi and MGVC Arts Commerce and Science College is included in University Grant commission 2(f) and 12 (B).

Our college has well equipped laboratories and class rooms with ICT facilities. The college has outdoor sports, indoor sports, Gym, and Canteen facilities. The college has more than 1000 students in different streams.

The College has produced many eminent personalities in literature, law, education, administration, business, etc. 

Till the date our college has been accredited four times by the NAAC Committee in the year 2004, 2011, 2017 & 2022. Presently it is accredited with A+ grade by the NAAC with 3.31 CGPA.
